Sold! Gone! No More! Old blurb:
My lovely, gorgeous Supra is for sale. I don't think it will ever forgive me. I've owned it for 7 years and lavished all my attention and the contents of my wallet on it. I've modified it to over 400 BHP, had it resprayed a stunning colour and scared the pants off many a passenger, who has got out with a glazed expression and a stupid grin. Mostly they were also somewhat hard of hearing after the demonstration of the sound system, which was custom made for the car.
However, I'm having to move to a more 'sensible' family-friendly car. Ok, an Audi RS6 is not strictly - or even at all - a sensible car, but it can get two kids in the back, all their paraphernalia and a kitchen sink without thinking. Therefore, the purple monster (steady...) is for sale. I'm not going to beat about the bush, it's worth well over 10 grand, but I want £ 9,999 for it. It's in excellent condition and if you look at, say, Top Marques, you'll not find a similar specced Supra for that price. Have a look at the specs below to see what this awesome car gives you for that money. And have a look at the Main Gallery and Detail Gallery for lots of photos - use the buttons at the top of the page. I'll be honest: it's got 132,000 miles on the clock. But, it's utterly bomb proof and these engines just go on, and on, and on. Many people in the Supra community know this car and have always been impressed by it. If you're interested, I urge you to come and see it and I'll take you out for a spin (hopefully not literally). I think you'll be impressed.
It's got a full service history. Here's a PDF of the service log
The Specs
Ok here we go. Anything in red is an aftermarket modification. All modifications have been running for at least 3 years. The car is very stable at these levels of power. It's a well known car within the Supra community.
The car is now at about Stage 4 of TDI's upgrades (note it's the turbo section of that TDI page at the bottom, not the top, non-turbo!), running over 400 BHP, although TDI didn't actually do the work. This, however, is an approximate figure as it can't be verified easily, due to the fact that most rolling roads can't cope with this power. Not round our way, anyway. The horsepower figure is given because this is the generally accepted power for a car at this level of modification, particularly when the start duty figures are taken into account on the AVC-R (please read the bit about boost controller, below), hence 400 - 420 estimate.
The picture above shows the car before I changed the indicators for the clear type - which just makes it look more streamlined colour-wise. See the Detail Gallery for the new indicators.
I've had the intercooler, radiator, clutch and air conditioner unit replaced, as these are perishable items at this sort of age. The exhaust, pads and plugs were replaced in March / April 2004. There was a delay in the car going on sale because I wanted it to be in perfect condition.
It's got a full service history and is taxed until the end of April 2005. The MOT runs till Feb 2005. All 4 tyres have loads of tread left and discs & pads are up to date.
| Make & Model | Toyota Supra Mk. IV (UK Spec., ie bigger injectors, bigger wheels, glass headlamps, etc., etc., etc.) |
| Registration | 1995 (M registration) |
| Engine | 3 litre sequential twin turbo intercooled 24 valve DOHC, EFI |
| Transmission | 6 speed manual |
| Weight | 1550 Kg approx. |
| Power | 400 - 420 crank BHP approx. modified (326 unmodified). |
|
BHP per ton (per L) |
Approx. 271 (140) |
| Exhaust | HKS Hiper cat-back exhaust. Replaced this year for the same exhaust, but the new one is actually stainless steel, whereas the last one wasn't. (link). Both cats removed, replaced by Chris Wilson's decat pipes. Currently, I've replaced the 2nd cat to pass the MOT, but I have the pipe. I do this every year and it only costs about a tenner to swap. With both cats out you get more power and a faster spool-up, but even with one out, it's much better than standard. |
| Induction kit (air filter) | HKS Super Powerflow (link) |
| Boost controller and fuel cut controller | Apexi AVC-R boost controller (link) Pete Betts' fuel cut controller (link). Boost is 1.25 kg/cm² (approx. 1.2 bar). Set to give an initial surge to approx. 1.4 - 1.5 kg/cm², which gives a really nice kick. NB kg/cm² is roughly, but not exactly equivalent to bar pressure measurements |
| Intercooler pipes | HKS intercooler hard pipe kit. Replaces the original plastic pipes which have a habit of coming off at high pressures! |
| Spark Plugs | Uprated Denso IK24 Iridium plugs to cope with the extra power. |
| Paint work | Completely resprayed "Rolex Blue" (i.e. purple) by Proudlocks in Wall, Nr. Hexham. Beautiful job. Not cheap, but very professional. It's inside all the doors etc., so you can't tell it was originally Storm blue unless you look inside the engine bay. Even there, the edges of the bonnet curve in pruple into the engine bay. This colour is actually a BMW bike colour and is still available for touch-ups. It is sometimes known as "Amethyst Blue" as well as "Rolex Blue" for some reason. At the time, I also had the "Toyota" badge on the back removed. |
| Fuel consumption | 13-21 mpg average depending on driving. 13 is thrashing it. 21 is on a long journey. |
| Tyres |
Rear: 255 x 40 x 17. Front: 235 x 45 x 17 Bridgestone Potenza SO3 Pole Position. Better all round tyres than the original |
| Other bits & pieces | Full independent suspension, speed sensitive progressive power steering, ABS, traction control, cruise control, air conditioning, climate control, full leather seats, electric windows, boost gauge, automatic front spoiler, driver & passenger airbags, clear indicators, lumbar supports to both front seats added. Front grille added to stop the bird barbecue and tidy the front end up. |
| ICE | Alpine MP3 head with 1200 watt Blaupunkt amp driving 2 x 6x9 Alpine Type R rears, 2 x 4.5 or 5" fronts (can't remember exactly what they are but they're a high quality, well known make) and a 12" Alpine S Type sub in a custom made box to leave as much room as possible in the boot. I actually have some Alpine R-type components to go in the front still in the box, but never quite got round to it. They'd be extra if you're interested, although the ones I put in the front are very good anyway. |
| Phone | Bluetooth hands-free kit. Works with most bluetooth phones. Control on the dash and speaker in the ashtray slot. |
| Security | The usual immobiliser and alarm, plus a Tracker. |
| Top speed | Electronically limited to 156 mph (250 kph). Estimated top speed 170 - 180mph. |
| 0-60 mph | Unmodified it was 4.9 sec's dead. Less than that now, obviously, but I haven't tested that figure. It's damned fast, that's for sure! |
